Press release

From now on, the time limit for proving your identity when submitting your application online will be three months. The change is effective on 10 November 2016.

You should prove your identity within three months from submitting your application in the e-service Enter Finland. Your application will be put in in the processing queue for applications immediately after you have proved your identity.

The purpose of this change is to make it easier for our customers to handle their applications matters, as there is a backlog at many Finnish missions (embassies or consulates). You can always use the first available appointment to prove your identity. However, if you are not able to book an appointment within three months, please book the first available appointment and send us a statement on your situation via the e-service.

The change also applies to applicants who have already submitted their application in the e-service Enter Finland, but have not yet proved their identity. As an example, if you submitted your application on 9 November 2016, you need to prove your identity on 9 February 2017 at the latest.

The change has been updated in the terms of use of the e-service Enter Finland. At the same time, the terms and conditions were also updated when it comes to, among other things, the instructions for using the user account.

Where can I prove my identity?

If you apply abroad, you need to book an appointment at a Finnish mission to prove your identity.

If you apply in Finland, you need to visit a police department until the end of 2016 and a service point of the Finnish Immigration Service starting from the beginning of 2017.

If you submit your application in Enter Finland before the end of 2016, the e-service will automatically change your chosen police department to the closest Finnish Immigration Service service point from the beginning of 2017.

Bring with you your passport, a passport photo and the originals of any documents you have attached to your electronic application when you come to prove your identity.
