The Finnish Immigration Service has opened a new statistical service which gathers up all statistics on applications and decisions concerning residence permits, international protection and citizenship as well as statistics on removal from the country. The service is available on the website statistics.migri.fi Finnish, Swedish and English.

The user can look more closely at information that he or she is interested in by making definitions to the statistics in the service. Information on, for example, persons who have applied for a residence permit, asylum or Finnish citizenship and on the decisions they have received can now be found in more detail than before, for example, according to age or sex.

The numbers in an individual statistic can also easily be changed to percentage values and the information can also be examined as graphic diagrams. You can also download statistics in CSV format from the service to your own computer for further adaptation. New statistical information is always updated in the service at the beginning of every month.

The statistical service was implemented by Lucify. The service will be improved based on the feedback we receive.

First statistics on matters transferred from the police to be published in February

In the future, information on the permit matters that were transferred from the police to the Finnish Immigration Service on 1 January 2017, such as extended residence permits and registration of EU citizens, will accumulate in the statistical service. The first statistics on these matters will be published in the service in February.

From 2017, new statistics will only be published in the statistical service and not any more in PDF format on the web page Statistics on Migri.fi. However, statistics for 2015 and 2016 can be found both in the statistical service and on the web page Statistics. Please note when interpreting the statistics for 2017 that they are not necessarily comparable with the statistics of previous years, as some matters are now presented in a different way than in the statistics of previous years.

All statistics of the Finnish Immigration Service cannot be found in the service. For example, statistics on reception operations, such as the number of accommodation places and the termination of reception services, can still only be found on the web page Statistics.

Other than standard statistics are subject to a fee

If you cannot find the information you are looking for in the statistical service, you can make an information request that is subject to a fee to the address tilastopyynto(at)migri.fi. The request is preliminary until the agency has given its estimate on the time table and the price of the delivery of information. These are determined by the government decree on fees as well as the actual work load.

New statistical tool also for resource planning within the Finnish Immigration Service

At the moment, the Asylum and Reception Units at the Finnish Immigration Service are trying out a new visual management tool (dashboard) which gives an exhaustive overall view with one glance of the statistics that describe their activities. The aim of the Migstat statistical project is to make the reception operations, the asylum interview process and the decision making process more effective.

The processing of applications is easier when, for example, delays in the work queues are noticed sooner than before. If, according to the statistics, the work queues in a certain Section are long, the asylum interviews and decisions can easily be transferred to another Section with shorter queues.

In the future, the new statistical tool will also help us react faster to unexpected situations, such as a possible sudden increase in the number of asylum seekers.

The development of the tool began in February 2016 with the support of the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF). The intention is to use the tool, when applicable, more widely in the agency’s other Units and other functions.
