Secrecy of personal information
The secrecy is based on the Act on the Openness of Government Activities 621/1999, section 24, subsection 1, item 24, and on Act on the Register of Aliens 1270/1997, section 11. In addition, Act on the Openness of Government Activities, 621/1999, section 24, subsection 1, items 1, 2, 4, 24, 25 and 32 may be applicable to the requested information and documents.
For example, information on refusal of entry, prohibition of entry and deportation is classified as sensitive personal information as outlined in the Act on the Register of Aliens (1270/1997), section 6. This puts a limit on how much information can be given concerning these issues.
A customer of the Finnish Immigration Service can issue a written authorisation to a journalist or other outsider to study his or her documents. The authorisation does not give permission to obtain information to which the applicant him/herself does not have an access (limitations set by the Openness Act 621/1999, section 11).
