Backlog of citizenship applications

We currently have a backlog of citizenship applications, because the amount of applications was 40 per cent higher in 2014 than the year before.

Due to the backlog, it takes longer than usual to start the actual processing of an application.

Applications are being processed in all the queues for different types of applications, but more slowly than usual.

Submit your application online

It takes less time to process an application, if the application has been submitted online instead of on paper. However, the application must be carefully filled in. We also receive the necessary additional documents more quickly via the electronic system.

Click on the correct link when you reply to a request for supplementary information

If you have submitted your application online and receive a request for supplementary information, remember to reply to the request by clicking “Reply to a request” in the e-service.

If you reply by clicking “Send additional information” or by sending e-mail to us, your reply is not automatically connected with the request and the processing of your application will take longer.
