Antti Lehtinen appointed as Director of Asylum Unit

The Finnish Immigration Service has appointed Antti Lehtinen, Master of Laws, as the new Director of the agency’s Asylum Unit. Lehtinen will begin his work on 1 August 2019.

He is currently working as Regional Head at the Asylum Unit of the Finnish Immigration Service. Having worked at the Asylum Unit of the Finnish Immigration Service since 2005, Lehtinen has a wide experience of the unit’s operations.

– I am confidently looking forward to my new post. We have an excellent, competent personnel coming from many different educational backgrounds. The cooperation of authorities in Finland is functioning very well, and I am sure that it will continue to be close in immigration matters, Lehtinen says.

The Director of the Asylum Unit is responsible for the operations of the unit. The primary task of the Asylum Unit is to process applications for international protection starting from asylum interviews and ending in a decision. The Asylum Unit has offices in Helsinki, Lappeenranta, Raisio, Oulu and Kuhmo. The unit has approximately 300 employees in total.

The current Director of the Asylum Unit, Esko Repo, will retire in August.
