The number of asylum seekers who are registered at reception centres has not decreased at the expected rate. That is why the reductions of accommodation capacity at some reception centres will be postponed. The closing down of two reception centres will be postponed.

The number of asylum seekers has not increased, but the asylum seekers have not moved on from the reception centres in the time estimated by the agency. The Administrative Courts have processed appeals against negative asylum decisions for longer than estimated. In addition, asylum seekers who have been granted a residence permit have not been able to transfer to a municipality in the desired time.

Reception centres in Hanko and Mikkeli to continue their operations until the end of the year

The agency has previously informed that certain reception centres will be closed down. These closures will not be cancelled, but the closure of two reception centres will be delayed. The reception centres in Hanko and Mikkeli will continue their operations until the end of 2017.

The reductions of accommodation capacity at the bellow reception centres will be postponed one to six months from the previously informed date:

  • Kitee (FRC) 300 (200)
  • Lieksa (Lieksa Christian Community College) 200 (100)
  • Imatra (FRC) 300 (200)
  • Pori (FRC) 300 (150)
  • Jyväskylä (FRC) 250 (170)
  • Kotka Laajakoski (FRC) 330 (200)
  • Kemi (FRC) 350 (250)
  • Rovaniemi Vaaranlaita (FRC) 200 (100)
  • Vörå (Vörå municipality) 325 (225)
  • Siilinjärvi (Kuopion Setlementti) 300 (200)
  • Kristinestad (FRC) 400 (300)

The first number shows the number of beds at the moment and the bracketed number shows the number of beds after the reduction. The reductions will be carried out no later than at the end of 2017.

We are proposing a slight increase in accommodation capacity at the following reception centres. These are centres where accommodation capacity has previously been reduced but where an agreement on a larger accommodation capacity still is in force:

  • Kauhava (FRC) 300 --> 400
  • Ruukki (FRC) 150 --> 200
  • Kankaanpää (Medivida Oy) 90 --> 120
  • Mäntä-Vilppula (FRC) 200 --> 300

If considerably more accommodation capacity is needed at reception centres, new reception centres may be established. For the time being there is no need for this.
