Waiting times for appointments are longer than usual – what to do if you cannot book an appointment

Due to high demand, the waiting times for available appointments in the appointment system of the Finnish Immigration Service are currently longer than usual. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

Here is what you can do if you are not able to book an appointment through the system:

  • Check our appointment system for available appointments later. We add new appointments into the system weekly.
  • You can see all available appointment times in the system. Our telephone service cannot offer you other times.
  • If your residence permit is valid for more than three months, wait for new appointment times to become available or submit your application through the Enter Finland online service.

  • If you wish to submit additional documents, send them by post or bring them to the mailbox at a service point. You do not need to book an appointment or take a waiting number.

  • If your matter is urgent and you are not able to book an appointment or use the online service, you can visit a service point. Take a waiting number and reserve time for the wait.

If you cannot come to your appointment, remember to cancel it. If you do not attend an appointment you have booked, we will charge you 50 euros.

Many matters can be dealt with online

Most applications can be submitted through the Enter Finland online service (enterfinland.fi). You can also check the processing status of your application through the service.

Your application becomes pending as soon as you submit it through Enter Finland. After submitting an application, you will have three months to visit a service point to prove your identity.

Are you applying for an extended permit? Some applicants do not need to visit a service point

If you are applying for an extended permit and you have proved your identity online, in some cases you will not need to visit a service point.

You can prove your identity in Enter Finland with online banking credentials, a citizen certificate or a mobile certificate.  The service will inform you whether you need to visit a service point or whether electronic identification is enough.
