Mobility notification for researchers
Submit a mobility notification to the Finnish Immigration Service if you intend to move to Finland from another EU Member State in order to conduct scientific research and if you meet the following conditions:
- You have been granted a residence permit for research by an EU Member State.
- You meet the conditions for mobility.
- You will move to Finland for a maximum of two years.
- You will carry out part of the research activity in a research organisation.
If you have been granted a residence permit for studies by an EU Member State and you wish to carry out part of your research in Finland, for example as part of a doctoral degree you are going to complete in another EU Member State, you may come to Finland with a researcher's mobility notification, provided that you have a master’s degree (a second-cycle degree) and you meet the other requirements for mobility.
If another EU Member State has granted you a residence permit on grounds other than research or studies, you cannot submit a mobility notification for researchers and come to Finland to do research. You need to apply for a residence permit for scientific research if the duration of your research in Finland is more than 90 days.
The Finnish Immigration Service is not responsible for your mobility period in a second EU Member State. If you have been granted a residence permit for scientific research in Finland and you wish to move to another EU Member State, please ask the competent authorities in the country in question about which conditions for mobility apply in that particular country.
If your family member has been granted a residence permit by an EU Member State, he or she can come to Finland with you. Your family member must submit a separate mobility notification to the Finnish Immigration Service.
Please be sure to include all the attachments required for your mobility notification. The Finnish Immigration Service will not send you a request asking for missing attachments.
Please use the mobility notification form at the bottom of this page.
