Changes to assisted voluntary return have taken place as of 1 January 2019 with the entry into force of the new Decree on Assisted Voluntary Return. Support for assisted voluntary return to one’s home country can be granted to an applicant, if the applicant is in need thereof and unable to fund the return independently.

The support can be granted in cash or as in-kind support. In-kind support refers to different types of services or equipment, including help in finding a home or starting a business.

The total sum of in-kind assistance is rising for all countries, and changes are taking place in the cash sums for some countries. Forms of assistance for voluntary return are bound to countries of return by country groups from A to D, below elaborated country group A:

Afghanistan, Angola, Burundi, Bangladesh, Benin, Bhutan, Burkina Faso, Cambodia, Central African Republic, Chad, Democratic People's Republic of Korea, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Gambia, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Haiti, Iraq, Laos, Lesotho, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Mozambique, Myanmar, Nepal, Niger, Rwanda, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Syria, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Yemen

The total sum of in-kind assistance is rising for all countries

  • In country group A: from €2,500 to €5,000

The support paid to a child returning home with family remains unchanged at €1,500 in all country groups.

Most significant changes in cash assistance:

  • Syria: goes up to country group A from group B, which means that the sum of cash assistance is rising from €800 to €1,500
  • Iran: goes up to country group C from group B, which means that the sum of cash assistance  is rising from €500 to €800
  • Georgia: goes down from group B to group C, which means that the sum of cash assistance is being reduced from €800 to €500
