Publication date 26.7.2018 15.23
Press release

A new law on the maximum processing times of asylum applications has entered into force on 20 July 2018. Under this law, asylum applications submitted on or after 20 July 2018 must be decided within six months. If the processing of an application takes longer than that, the Finnish Immigration Service will notify the client directly of this.

The maximum processing time of six months does not apply to applications submitted before 20 July 2018.

The new law does not extend the processing times of asylum applications submitted before 20 July 2018

The Finnish Immigration Service continues to process asylum applications submitted before 20 July 2018 simultaneously with the more recent applications. Clients with older applications have been given an estimated processing time for their applications in the asylum interview.
