Postgraduate students

If a student comes to Finland for postgraduate studies at a university after his or her master’s degree and is awarded a minimum of 1,187 euros a month in scholarship or salary from an official instance in 2017, he or she is considered to be a researcher.

If a postgraduate student is financing his or her studies with his or her own means or has a scholarship of less than 1,187 euros a month, he or she is considered to be a student.

If the postgraduate student resides in Finland for a maximum of 90 days, he or she may stay in Finland with a visa or without a visa if he or she is exempted from the visa requirement, regardless of whether he or she is paid a salary or not.
