Temporary protection will continue until 4 March 2026
Once the residence permit for temporary protection has been extended, the validity of the residence permit cards on the basis of temporary protection will also continue until 4 March 2026.
You will receive a letter from us once we have extended your temporary protection permit. Keep the letter. Finnish authorities and, for example, banks and employers may request you to show the letter stating that your residence permit has been extended.

You do not need to apply for a new residence permit card
When the Finnish Immigration Service has extended your residence permit for temporary protection, your current residence permit for temporary protection will be valid until 4 March 2026, even if your residence permit card shows 4 March 2023, 4 March 2024 or 4 March 2025 as the date of expiry. This means that you do not need to apply for a new residence permit card.
If there are changes to your name information
If there are changes to your name information or you have some other pressing need to renew your residence permit card, you can apply for a new residence permit card in the Enter Finland online service. You can apply for a new residence permit card from 23 January 2025.
The processing fee for renewing a residence permit card is EUR 20 in Enter Finland. If you cannot use Enter Finland, you can apply for a new card at our service point. The processing fee for a card renewed at a service point is EUR 40.
