If the Finnish Immigration Service grants you a residence permit or international protection, you will get a residence permit card. It takes us about two weeks to manufacture and post a residence permit card.
If you have been granted Finnish citizenship, you may apply for a Finnish passport from the police.
If you become a Finnish citizen:
- Your residence permit will expire.
- Your valid alien’s passport or refugee travel document will be cancelled. You may use your cancelled alien’s passport or refugee travel document to prove your identity when you apply for a Finnish passport or identity card from the police. However, you can no longer travel with your alien’s passport or refugee travel document.
