Your rights related to the processing personal data

On this page we provide information about your rights related to the processing of personal data and explain how you can use your rights at the Finnish Immigration Service.

Under the General Data Protection Regulation, you have the right to access personal data concerning you in personal data files. On your request, the Finnish Immigration Service as the controller must give you a copy of the personal data concerning you, or confirm that personal data concerning you are not being processed. You cannot view your data directly in the Finnish Immigration Service’s systems.

You can access your data by submitting a written request for this to a Finnish Immigration Service office or the agency’s Registry. If you submit your request by e-mail, we recommend that you use secure e-mail: https://securemail.migri.fi/.

You will be asked to prove your identity when you exercise your right to access your data. Your identity can be checked when you visit the agency's service point or at the post office when you collect the reply sent as a registered letter.

Right to rectification or completion of data

If you notice that your data are incomplete or incorrect, you can ask the agency to rectify them. In this case, we ask you to let us know which data are incorrect and why as well as tell us how the data should be changed, or to let us know which data should be complemented and how. The Finnish Immigration Service may refuse to rectify or complement your data. In this case, you will receive a decision on the refusal, which you can appeal.

You have the right to ask that we rectify or change your data by sending a request for this to the address (Finnish Immigration Service, P.O. Box 10, 00086 Finnish Immigration Service) and by emailing a message to the Registry at migri@migri.fi.

Notification concerning the processing of personal data and right to lodge a complaint with the supervisory authority

If you would like to make a notification of a problem related to the processing of your personal data, as a first step you should contact the Finnish Immigration Service’s Data Protection Officer. You also have the right to complain about the processing of your data to the supervisory authority. In Finland, this supervisory authority is the Data Protection Ombudsman.
