Processing can rarely be expedited by request

All of our customers would like their application to be decided as soon as possible. However, if an application jumps the queue, it delays the processing of other applications, which is not fair towards the other applicants. That is why a request to expedite an application speeds up the processing very seldom.

A large number of requests can slow down the processing of applications because the requests themselves must be processed.

For example the following are not well-founded reasons for expediting an application:

  • moving
  • studies
  • a trip or a family visit abroad
  • the expiry of a travel document or a residence permit; a passport or a residence permit that is expiring must be renewed well in advance
  • desire to carry out military service

All requests for expedited processing should be made in writing (by e-mail or letter). Only written requests will be processed. Make sure you include

  • your name
  • your customer number
  • your date of birth or personal identity code
  • the grounds for expedited processing.

Attach a certificate or other document supporting your request. We will not send you a separate answer to your request.

Please remember that if you send us personal information by e-mail, you do so at your own risk because the connection is not secure.

Please remember that you cannot speed up the processing of your application by contacting us

We will contact you if we need additional information for your application. Otherwise, we will not contact you before the decision is made, so please wait patiently.

You can usually follow the processing of your application also with the help of chatbot Kamu and automated messages.

You cannot speed up the processing by calling or visiting the Finnish Immigration Service.
