When a child turns 18

If a child, who is a co-applicant in a citizenship application, turns 18 before a decision has been issued on the application, the child must supplement the application so that it applies to him or her.

Supplementing the application means that the co-applicant fills in the citizenship application KAN_1. The co-applicant can submit his or her application by post. Alternatively, he or she can bring it to an office or service point of the Finnish Immigration Service and put it in a post box meant for answers to requests for additional information.

The application of a co-applicant who has turned 18 is free of charge if the co-applicant submits it within the time limit given by the Finnish Immigration Service.

The Finnish Immigration service sends a letter to any co-applicant who comes of age, urging him or her to supplement the application so that it applies to him or her. The letter also states a date by which this must be done.
