When a child turns 18
If a child who is included in a citizenship application as a co-applicant turns 18 before the application is decided by the Finnish Immigration Service, the child must supplement the application so that it applies to him or her. Supplementing the application means that a child included as a co-applicant fills in the Citizenship application KAN_1. For more information, see the page Citizenship application for adults.
The Finnish Immigration service sends a letter to any co-applicant who comes of age, urging him or her to supplement the application so that it applies to him or her. The letter also states a date by which this must be done. The applicant can then submit the application by post or by bringing it to a service point of the Finnish Immigration Service and leave it in the letter box at the service point.
An applicant who has reached 18 years of age is not required to fill in section 9 on the application form concerning income because the requirement for sufficient financial resources does not apply to an applicant supplementing an application so that it applies to him or her.
The application is free of charge provided that it is submitted within the time limit set out by the Finnish Immigration Service.
