Extension application, fixed-term residence permit on a continuous basis

Apply for an extended permit with this application if you have been granted a continuous fixed-term residence permit (A) on one of the following grounds: returnee, former Finnish citizen, Finnish origin, or need for international protection (you are a quota refugee, you have been granted refugee status or subsidiary protection through applying for asylum, or you have been issued a residence permit on the grounds of need for protection or an individual human reason) and you wish to apply for an extension permit on the same grounds.

If you received your first residence permit on the basis of family ties, please apply for an extended permit with the form OLE_JATKO_PS.

Application for an extended permit on the basis of remigration from the area of the former Soviet Union

The grounds on which your previous, fixed-term residence permit was granted to you must still exist.

Make sure you meet the general requirements for entry into Finland before you submit an application

You have a valid passport.

You are not a danger to public order and security.

Requirements

You must meet one of the following two requirements:

  • You were an Ingrian evacuee.
    • Ingrian evacuees are persons who were evacuated from Ingria to Finland in 1943–1944 and later returned to the Soviet Union.
  • You served in the Finnish army in 1939–1945.

You must also meet the following requirement:

  • You have accommodation in Finland.
    • You may either own your accommodation or rent it in the private market. You may also move in to live with a relative in order to meet the accommodation requirement. You must have accommodation available to you within six months of submitting your residence permit application.

You do not need to have secure means of support.

Right to work

  • You have an unrestricted right to work. You may also continue working while your application for an extended permit is being processed if you applied for it before your previous residence permit expired. If you apply for an extended permit after your previous residence permit has expired, you are not allowed to continue working.

General attachments

  • Valid passport (you must present it when you submit the residence permit application)
  • Passport photo complying with the photo guidelines issued by the police or a photograph retrieval code you received from a photo shop, OLEL_PK
  • Color copies of the passport page containing personal data and all pages that contain notes

Application-specific attachments

  • A certificate or statement of accommodation in Finland
    • You must have accommodation available to you within six months of submitting your residence permit application.
  • Certificates of changes of name

If your first residence permit was granted to you on the basis of remigration from the area of the former Soviet Union and you apply for an extended permit on the same grounds, use this form. If your first residence permit was granted on some other grounds but you apply for an extended permit on the basis of remigration, please use the form OLE_EN.
