Automated post-decision monitoring of residence permits for employed persons begins

Publication date 20.1.2025 9.34
Press release

Automated post-decision monitoring of residence permits for employed persons begins on 20 January 2025. Post-decision monitoring means that we check whether you still meet the requirements for your residence permit.

We will conduct automated post-decision monitoring of first residence permits for employed persons issued on 1 January 2024 or later, and of extended permits issued on 1 January 2023 or later.

We may conduct automatic register checks in national registers, including the register of Kela (kela.fi), the Incomes Register (vero.fi) and the registers of the Legal Register Centre (oikeusrekisterikeskus.fi).

The purpose of the register checks is to help us assess whether you still meet the requirements for the permit. We will check, among other things, that your salary meets the salary level requirement associated with the permit.

If there is reason to consider withdrawal of permit, we will make an individual assessment of the situation

If there is reason to consider the withdrawal of your residence permit, your case will be assessed by a specialist at the Finnish Immigration Service. Before making a decision on withdrawal, we will always ask you and your family member who lives in Finland of your opinions on the possible withdrawal of the permit. See the page Withdrawal of residence permits for more information.

As a customer, you do not need to take any action at this point. We will contact you if we need any information from you.

Why do we conduct post-decision monitoring of residence permits?

Post-decision monitoring is an important tool in ensuring Finland’s internal security, in preventing misuse of the permit system and in preventing illegal entry into and illegal stay in the country. Post-decision monitoring allows us to take action if we detect labour exploitation and human trafficking. We have carried out post-decision monitoring of different permit types since 2017.
