My other relative or family member is in Finland
These pages contain information for you if your other relative or family member living in Finland is a Finnish citizen or has been granted refugee status, subsidiary protection or temporary protection.
Click on the links below for more information on applying for a residence permit if your other relative or family member is a Finnish citizen or has been granted international protection or temporary protection.
Who can be your ‘other relative or family member’?
Persons who can be considered other relatives or family members include, for example, the following:
- the parent of a person who has turned 18
- a sister or brother of a child under 18 years of age, if the sister or brother who is in another country than Finland is also under 18 years of age and has no guardian or has a different guardian than the child living in Finland (also the consent of the guardian is required)
- an unmarried sister or brother of a person who has turned 18.
Your spouse’s or partner’s relatives cannot be considered to be your other relatives.
You can watch our webinar about residence permits for family members. The topics covered in the webinar include residence permit applications, income requirement and extended permits.
