- Contact the child’s reception centre or group home. The social services at the reception centre or group home will assess whether or not it is necessary for the child to renew the residence permit card. The child’s own wish to renew the card is not sufficient.
- A child’s residence permit granted on the basis of temporary protection is valid and the child is legally residing in Finland if their residence permit card granted on the basis of temporary protection has one of the following expiry dates: 4 March 2023, 4 March 2024 or 4 March 2025. If the social services of the reception centre or group home consider it necessary to renew the child’s card, you can apply for a new residence permit card for the child at a service point of the Finnish Immigration Service. You must only bring your child with you to have their fingerprints taken at a service point if they have reached the age of 6 after receiving their previous residence permit granted on the basis of temporary protection. In other cases, the Finnish Immigration Service has the child’s fingerprints, and you do not have to bring them along to the service point.
- You can only apply for a new residence permit card for a minor at a service point of the Finnish Immigration Service. For more information, see the section ‘How to apply for a new residence permit card at a service point of the Finnish Immigration Service’ on this page. Representatives have previously been able to apply for cards for minors by using the Enter Finland online service. This is no longer possible.
