Have you been granted temporary protection? Extension of your permit is being planned
At the moment, residence permits granted on the basis of temporary protection are valid until 4 March 2023. The Ministry of the Interior announced on 12 September 2022 that it is drafting a law under which residence permits that have been granted on the basis of temporary protection could be extended so that they would automatically be valid at least until 4 March 2024.
If the validity of the residence permits is extended automatically, you do not need to apply separately for an extended permit on the basis of temporary protection. Issues that concern residence permit cards are still being considered during the drafting process.
Wait for additional instructions
As the matter is still being prepared by the Ministry of the Interior, the Finnish Immigration Service cannot yet answer questions about the possible extension of temporary protection.
We do not recommend applying for some other residence permit or asylum just because there are currently no detailed instructions on the possible extension of temporary protection. According to the Ministry of the Interior, the law will be submitted to Parliament this autumn. Parliament enacts laws in Finland.
We will publish more information about the subject when the act has entered into force, at the latest.
