Remigration of Ingrian Finns ends on 1 July 2016
Ingrian Finns have been able to apply for a residence permit on the basis of remigration if the applicant, one of his or her parents or at least two out of four grandparents are or have previously been Finnish by nationality.
In addition to this, the applicant has had to register for a separate remigration queue in Russia before 1 July 2011. Those in the queue can apply for a residence permit on the basis of remigration until 1 July 2016.
After the deadline, Ingrian Finns can apply for a residence permit through the general residence permit system.
The deadline for remigration applies only to Ingrian Finns
The deadline for remigration does not apply to
- former Finnish citizens
- descendants of Finnish citizens by birth
- Ingrian evacuees
- those who served in the Finnish army between 1939 and 1945.
They may still apply for a residence permit on the basis of remigration.
Family members of returnees must have sufficient means of support starting from 1 July 2016
After 1 July 2016, family members of Ingrian Finns must have sufficient means of support in order to obtain a residence permit.
