If you cancel your asylum application and plan to return home, ask for your passport well in advance. If you ask for your passport only on the day you are travelling or the day before, we may be unable to deliver the passport before you leave.

When you want to ask for your passport, call the customer service of the Finnish Immigration Service at 0295 419 600 (Monday to Friday at 9.00–15.00) as soon as possible before your departure. Our telephone service is available in Finnish, Swedish and English.

When you call, please state your

  • name
  • customer number
  • the day you plan to travel.

Let us also know whether you want to collect your passport from the Helsinki office of the Finnish Immigration Service (Lautatarhankatu 10, Monday to Friday at 8.00–16.15) or wish us to deliver it to the Border Guard at the Helsinki-Vantaa airport.

If you do not have a passport

If you do not have a passport, you must get a temporary travel document for your home journey from the embassy of your home country.

Please note that if you travel to Helsinki to get your temporary travel document or passport, your reception centre cannot arrange for your journey or your accommodation in Helsinki. Instead, you must take care of these arrangements by yourself in advance. It is a good idea to contact the embassy before you travel to Helsinki.
