As of 1 January 2017, the Finnish Immigration Service will be responsible for accepting applications for residence permits and citizenship permits as well as other permits for foreign nationals.

Until the end of this year, all applications for permits for foreign nationals should be submitted at police service points. The police have service points throughout Finland. You can find more information about the services and office hours of these service points on the website poliisi.fi.

If your permit does not expire until next year:

Please wait patiently for the Finnish Immigration Service to start booking appointments.

Our aim is to start booking appointments during November of this year. Then you will be able to book an appointment at a service point of the Finnish Immigration Service from the beginning of January 2017.

We will inform you at a later stage about the exact date when we will start booking appointments and also give you on our web page instructions for booking an appointment. Do not worry; you will be able to hand in your application.

In most cases, using our e-service is the easiest way to submit your application. In that case, all you need to do is identify yourself at a service point within one month of submitting your application in the Enter Finland e-service.

If your permit expires during this year:

Apply for an extended permit before your current permit expires. The police are responsible for accepting applications in Finland until the end of this year. The police are also responsible for making the decision on all residence permits that are included in the jurisdiction of the police.

If you have difficulties in booking an appointment for the last part of the year, please contact the police. The Finnish Immigration Service cannot accept applications before 2017.
