A reception centre in Espoo to be closed down, the capacity of a reception centre in Vantaa to be reduced
The Finnish Immigration Service terminates its contract with the reception centre in Nihtisilta and reduces the number of accommodation places in the reception centre at Robert Huberin tie. The accommodation capacity for asylum seekers will decrease by 525 places in total in the capital region.
Last year, the number of new asylum seekers hit a record low. The number of first asylum applications was around 1,150 between January and November 2020. Around 6,500 asylum seekers are currently registered in the reception system, and around 3,300 of them live in different types of reception centres. The number of available places is currently around 1,500.
The Finnish Immigration Service aims for the reception centre capacity to correspond to the existing need for accommodation.
Reception centres to be closed down:
- The reception centre in Nihtisilta (Espoo), Luona Oy, 450 places. The unit will be closed down by 30 June 2021.
Reductions in capacity:
- The reception centre at Robert Huberin tie (Vantaa), Luona Oy. The capacity will be reduced by 75 places. The new capacity will be 375 as of 1 April 2021.
