The Finnish Parliament has approved an amendment to the Social Assistance Act, which will also tighten the conditions for receiving reception allowance as of 1 March 2026. In future, all earned income and allowances will be taken into account in full when determining the amount of reception allowance.

The amendment concerns all customers within the reception system who are over the age of 18 or their spouses who are paid a salary or other financial allowances. The amendment also concerns spouses living in a municipality.

All your family's income is taken into account in the amount of the reception allowance

When processing your reception allowance application, your reception centre will make a calculation to assess your entitlement to reception allowance. All income and funds that you and your family have at your disposal affect the amount of the reception allowance.

In future, earned income will be considered in full when the reception centre assesses the amount of reception allowance. Previously, 150 euros of your or your spouse’s earned income could be excluded from the calculation but this deduction is now eliminated.

In future, other financial allowances will also be taken into account in full in the calculation. Previously, allowances amounting to a maximum of 50 euros per month for a single-person household and 100 euros per months for a family were excluded from the calculation.
