Decision-making on Iranian asylum applications partly paused
The security situation in Iran has changed due to large protests and use of violence by security forces. That is why the Finnish Immigration Service has decided to partly pause decision-making on asylum applications submitted by Iranians. For now, the decision-making is suspended until 31 March 2026. After that, we will assess whether we can issue decisions as normal.
The decision concerns applications that cannot be decided before there is more information on how the security situation in the country develops.
All applications cannot be decided due to changed security situation
Decisions on asylum applications require up-to-date information about the country’s security situation. This information is actively being updated and collected from several different sources by the Finnish Immigration Service. As the security situation in Iran has changed, the Finnish Immigration Service is following and assessing the situation. That is why it is not possible to issue decisions on all asylum applications for the time being.
Although decision-making is partly paused, we still process asylum applications. We also conduct asylum interviews as normal.
The decision-making will return to normal as soon as we have enough information about the situation in Iran. We will inform our clients once the decision-making is resumed.
