Delays in the delivery of letters due to the postal strike

Press release

The postal strike that started on Sunday 1 September will end on Wednesday 4 September. The strike delays mail delivery in Finland.

The letters that the Finnish Immigration Service has sent by post will probably arrive somewhat later than normal. Likewise, letters sent to the Finnish Immigration Service may arrive later than they would normally arrive. For example, residence permit cards and decisions that are served may arrive later than usual.

Exceeding a time limit due to the postal strike will not affect your matter

If you have sent something to the Finnish Immigration Service by post and the delivery is late because of the postal strike, this will not affect the processing of your matter. For example, if you have been asked to send additional documents by a certain date, it does not matter if they arrive late due to the postal strike, as long as you have sent them before the end of the time limit.

Residence permit cards are delivered to Finnish missions as usual

The strike does not affect residence permit card deliveries to Finnish missions abroad, because a private company takes care of these deliveries.

Use the online service to send additional documents and to check notifications of decisions if you have applied online

If you have applied for a residence permit or citizenship via the Enter Finland online service, you can submit the documents that you need to send to the Finnish Immigration Service directly via the service. You will also be notified of the decision directly in the Enter Finland online service.
