Student: You may no longer work without restrictions during holidays

Publication date 3.5.2022 14.37
Press release

Amendments to legislation on students and researchers entered into force on 15 April 2022. The new act brought changes to the requirements for students’ residence permits. There have also been changes in students’ right to work. Students may no longer work without restrictions during holidays or at the times when the educational institution offers no instruction.

From now on, students are allowed to work 30 hours a week. The number of working hours can be exceeded some weeks, as long as the average working hours are no more than 30 hours per week at the end of the year. The restriction of 30 hours is not applicable to work related to your degree, such as practical training or diploma work as part of the degree.

If you have been granted a residence permit prior to the amendment, your right to work will automatically be changed to 30 hours per week. Thus, you do not need to apply for a new permit.
