The Finnish Immigration Service will post requests for supplementary information related to residence permit and citizenship matters as well as positive decisions on citizenship to its customers in the form of an e-letter.

In sending a letter as an e-letter, the Finnish Immigration Service transmits the data contained in the letter via an electronic system to Itella, that is, the Finland Post. At Itella, the letter is then printed, inserted in an envelope and sent to the recipient by post as an ordinary letter.

Please note that an envelope containing a Finnish Immigration Service e-letter bears no official logo of ours. The letter will arrive in an ordinary white envelope.

Faster information flow

By using e-letters, we are able to accelerate the flow of information between the Finnish Immigration Service and the customer. The introduction of the e-letter is also expected to make the processing of cases more efficient. The time previously spent on mailing letters can now be spent on decision-making work, and it is hoped that this will contribute to the shortening of processing times.

At a later date, we will introduce the e-letter for mailing positive decisions on residence permit applications as well.
