Migri will introduce a special mobile number for media enquiries and communicate via Twitter
The number of asylum seekers has increased drastically. This puts additional pressure particularly on the Reception Unit and Press and Communications Services at the Finnish Immigration Service.
In order to be able to serve the media in the best possible way and allow the Reception Unit's experts to focus on the tasks at hand, we will begin communicating via Twitter on certain issues. We have also introduced a special mobile number for media enquiries.
The latest news on reception centres via Twitter
From now on, we will mostly communicate on Twitter (@Maahanmuuttovir) about new reception centres and emergency accommodation units. The situation changes so quickly in reception centres that Twitter has proven to be the best communication channel for the purpose. We will prepare more extensive press releases as necessary, but not on the opening of individual reception centres or emergency accommodation units.
We will also tweet about the number of asylum seekers, communicating every Monday the preliminary number for the previous week.
In these exceptional circumstances, the primary language of communication is Finnish, but we will use Swedish, too, as far as possible.
Phone calls by media to the special media number for the time being
Because Communications has limited resources, we will introduce a special media mobile number. For the time being, all phone calls from the media will be directed to one number, with an officer on duty during office opening hours.
We kindly request media representatives to be patient, as the person responsible for replying to this number will have to compile information for the previous caller or forward contact requests. Therefore, we will not be able to answer the special media number at all times.
You are welcome to send a request to call back by e-mail to viestinta@migri.fi.
