Press release

From the beginning of 2017, the Finnish Immigration Service will accept all applications submitted by foreign nationals related to residence permits, travel documents and citizenship matters in Finland.

The e-service Enter Finland is the easiest way to fill in your application and take care of your application matters. You will then have three months to prove your identity. If you are applying with a paper form, you can find our forms here.

When you have completed your application, please book an appointment at one of our service points. Our appointment system opens 17 November 2016 at 10 and from then on you can book appointments at our service points for January and February of next year. The front page of Migi.fi will have a link to the online appointment system.

Until the end of 2016, applications should be submitted at a police station. If you are unable to book an appointment, you can visit a police station and queue there. You can find more information about the services and office hours of these service points on the website poliisi.fi.

If you apply abroad, you need to visit a Finnish mission (embassy or consulate) to prove your identity. You cannot book an appointment at a mission in our appointment system.

How to book an appointment:

  • Visit our online appointment system.
  • After you have completed your application in Enter Finland, you will see a link which will take you directly to book an appointment for proving your identity.
  • Choose the appointment based on what it is you are applying for.
  • Choose the service point you want to visit.
  • To book an appointment, you need your personal details as well as your e-mail address or your mobile phone number.
  • You will receive a confirmation of your appointment by e-mail or text message.
  • If you have to cancel your appointment, do it in the appointment system. You will find instructions on how to cancel an appointment in the confirmation of your appointment.

Only book one appointment. We will remove all extra appointments.

From February on, a public official from the Finnish Immigration Service will start to visit Mariehamn, Åland in accordance with the booked appointments. You will be able to book an appointment later this year. If you live on Åland and your permit expires in January you can apply online in the e-service or visit a service point on the mainland.

Patience in problem situations

The online appointment system is a new service for the Finnish Immigration Service. In the beginning, we will follow its operations extra closely and deal with possible problems as soon as possible. We are asking our customers to be patient.

At first, the appointment system may be very busy. If you are unable to book an appointment, please try again later. You will be notified of possible interruptions in our services on our website.

If your permit expires later in the spring, please wait patiently for new appointment times to become available. Appointments will become available for booking a few months at a time.

You cannot book an appointment by phone. If you do not use our online appointment system, you can visit a service point and queue to submit your application. The service points will open next year. Fill in an application beforehand and make sure that you have all the necessary attachments. Please be prepared for long queues and that we will not necessarily be able to handle your matter during the same day if you arrive late to the service point.

Be in time for your appointment

Next year, when you arrive at a service point of the Finnish Immigration Service, please bring with you all the necessary documents. If any information or attachments are missing, this will delay the processing of your application and your application may be rejected.

Be in time for your appointment. If you are not present when your appointment starts, you will lose the appointment.

You can pay the processing fee for your application either online in the e-service Enter Finland or at our service point.
