Asylum seekers’ Moni cards will stop working, remember to withdraw your money on 24 November at the latest

Publication date 4.11.2019 12.56
Press release

The remaining Moni cards of the Finnish Immigration Service will be taken out of use on 24 November 2019. After that date, you can no longer use your Moni card.

As we announced on 26 July, asylum seekers who applied for a PFS card by 7 July 2019 have received the money from their Moni account to their PFS card.

It has not been possible to top up or pay wages to a Moni card after May 2019.

The Moni cards have been used for reception allowance and salary payments to asylum seekers. We are replacing all Moni cards with PFS cards.

Do this if you still have money on your Moni card:

  • Withdraw or use all the money from your Moni card on 24 November 2019 at the latest. Until that date, you can keep using your card as usual. As cardholder you are responsible for making sure that you no longer have money on the card after 24 November 2019.
  • If you have money on your Moni card but the card is no longer working, notify your reception centre of this. More instructions on how you can get the remaining money back will be announced later.
  • If you are no longer registered as a client at a reception centre, you can email maksukortti@migri.fi and ask how you can get the remaining money back. If you are still registered as a client at a reception centre, you should contact your reception centre.
  • Once you have used or withdrawn all the money from your Moni account, you need to destroy the card by cutting it in half so that both the magnetic strip and the chip are destroyed. You should do that on 25 November 2019 at the latest.
