Reform of residence permit and citizenship applications
All application forms of the Finnish Immigration Service having to do with residence permits and citizenship are gradually being converted into PDF format, because applications in electronic form are faster to process. In the future, applications submitted on paper will be scanned into electronic form.
You can fill in a PDF form online or save it on your own computer and fill it in later.
To fill in a PDF form, you will need Acrobat Reader, a free application that you can download here.
You may also fill in the application on paper. Print out the PDF and fill it in. However, we recommend using the computer, since the application scanner reads electronically written text more accurately and quickly.
The transition to PDF forms will not change the application process itself in any way. Applications must still be submitted to the police or to a Finnish embassy.
Word forms to be phased out
The forms in PDF format will be phased in.
The first forms to be made available in PDF format only will be:
- citizenship application forms KAN1, KAN_1A, KAN_1B, KAN_1C
- application for a residence permit for employment (OLE_TY1)
- application for a permanent residence permit (OLE_P_PEY)
Some application forms are still available in Word format for the time being.
