Some students may now receive an automated decision on their first residence permit application
Today on 19 October 2023, we have introduced automated decision-making for first residence permits for studies.
An automated decision is a decision that our system automatically makes on your application. The processing of your application may involve automated steps and steps taken by our specialists.
Our system makes an automated decision only where this is possible under law. Automation is based on the rules formulated by the Finnish Immigration Service. The system uses these rules to check whether your application meets the requirements laid down in law.
You may only receive an automated decision in specific cases if you have been admitted to a Finnish university as a degree student or to a Finnish educational institution as an exchange student.
