Publication date 7.2.2020 12.53
Press release

The Migration Library will close down on 1 March 2020. The special library is currently located in Sörnäinen in Helsinki at Lintulahdenkatu.

The library will be closed down for operational and economic reasons. Savings are expected through reduced rent and maintenance costs.

The decision will not result in any personnel cuts.

Migration Institute of Finland to take over part of collection

The library’s collection consists of literature about immigrants, migration-related phenomena and the conditions in countries of origin. Other themes include refugee and migration policy, racism, ethnic relations and integration. In total, the library’s collection consists of approximately 12,000 volumes and 40 periodicals.

Some of the items in the collection will be moved to the library of the Migration Institute of Finland in Turku, where they can be borrowed in the future. A part of the collection will stay at the Finnish Immigration Service for the use of its personnel. Among others, the researchers of the Finnish Immigration Service’s country information unit use the material in their work.
