The Finnish Immigration Service steers and monitors the activities of the assistance system for victims of human trafficking. To ensure that the steering and monitoring are systematic and transparent, the Finnish Immigration Service has now set up a monitoring programme for the system. This is the first monitoring programme ever implemented for the assistance system for victims of human trafficking.

The assistance system for victims of human trafficking is an international specialist authority in matters related to human trafficking and combatting it. The task of the system is to provide support to victims of human trafficking and guidance on matters related to human trafficking. The assistance system operates as part of the Finnish Immigration Service.

‘The programme describes the principles, objectives and practices of the steering and monitoring. The purpose is to use the programme to assess and further develop the steering and monitoring,’ says Head of Section Olli Snellman.

Self-monitoring required from the assistance system

As part of its monitoring, the Finnish Immigration Service also requires that the assistance system for victims of human trafficking monitors its own activities. The Finnish Immigration Service supports the system in this work and has provided the system with instructions for implementing self-monitoring and drafting a self-monitoring plan.

The self-monitoring plan describes how the assistance system for victims of human trafficking ensures that its activities are appropriate. The plan also describes how the assistance system identifies, prevents and corrects any errors found in its activities and any situations that pose a risk to the success of the activities.
