Seasonal worker applying for a permit from abroad - if your employment contract is for longer than 3 months you must apply for a seasonal work permit

Publication date 15.6.2021 10.06
Press release

From 1 July 2021, you can no longer arrive in Finland on a seasonal work certificate if your employment lasts more than 3 months.

Exceptional procedure no longer used

In our customer bulletin of 17 February 2021, we announced that you may come to Finland on a seasonal work certificate and apply for a seasonal work permit while in Finland if you were not able to book an appointment at a Finnish mission abroad for identification.

This was an exceptional arrangement in place temporarily because of the coronavirus pandemic, and this procedure will no longer be in use from 1 July 2021 onwards. During this spring, it has been difficult to book appointments at local Finnish missions for identification, which is why the exceptional procedure was taken into use. From 1 July 2021, normal services will resume.

If your employment contract is for longer than 3 months,

you must apply for a seasonal work permit. Book an appointment at your nearest Finnish missions for identification.

If you request for a seasonal work certificate and your employment contract is for longer than 3 months, you are likely to receive a negative decision.

If you have already arrived in Finland on a seasonal work certificate and your employment contract is for longer than 3 months,

submit your seasonal work permit application here in Finland. The ending of the exceptional procedure does not affect you.
