Information for partners: All residence permits granted on the basis of temporary protection will be extended on 9–16 February 2024

The Finnish Immigration Service will extend all residence permits granted on the basis of temporary protection. The permits will be valid until 4 March 2025. We will send our clients a letter when we have extended their permit on the basis of temporary protection.

We will also send our clients a text message stating that their permit has been extended, if we have their phone numbers. The message is in Finnish and English and contains a link to our website: migri.fi/uk/karta-posvidki-na-prozivanna. It is not possible to reply to the message.

Residence permit cards are valid even if their last day of validity is 4 March 2023 or 4 March 2024

Clients who receive temporary protection may reside and work legally in Finland until 4 March 2025, even if the last day of validity in their residence permit cards is 4 March 2023 or 4 March 2024.

However, with a new residence permit card, they can always prove with certainty that they have a valid residence permit and right to work and reside in Finland. 

We recommend that our clients apply for a new residence permit card after their permit has been extended

Our clients can apply for a new residence permit card as of 17 February 2024, but there is no need to hurry with the application. They can apply for a new card at any time as long as their residence permit on the basis of temporary protection is valid. The updated validity period of their residence permit will be printed on the new card. New residence permit cards will be issued free of charge.

With a new card, clients can easily prove that their residence permit is valid, that they are staying in Finland legally and that they have a valid right to work.
