Decision-making on all international protection applications by Iranian nationals resumes
The Finnish Immigration Service suspended decision-making on some international protection applications submitted by Iranian nationals in February 2026 due to the changed security situation in Iran.
We have reassessed the security situation in the country and will now resume decision-making on all international protection applications submitted by Iranian nationals. Decision-making will resume on 1 July 2026.
Each application is processed individually
Decision-making had previously been suspended for applications that required additional information on how the security situation in Iran would develop before a decision could be made. As there is now sufficient information about the situation in the country, the decision-making process can be continued for all applications.
We aim to make decisions on applications as soon as possible. We will prioritise the processing of applications submitted earlier than other applications.
If you receive a positive decision on your application for international protection, you will be granted:
- refugee status; or
- subsidiary protection; or
- a residence permit on other grounds.

If you are not issued a residence permit on the basis of international protection, the Finnish Immigration Service will usually issue a decision denying your admittance or stay in connection with the negative decision. Learn more on the page Negative decision.
