People fleeing Ukraine: Did someone offer you a job, accommodation or transport? Always make sure that the offer is real

Publication date 1.4.2022 14.31
Press release

If strangers offer or recommend you a job, accommodation or transport, you should make sure that their offer is real.

Some people may make false offers in order to take advantage of a person in distress. You may, for example, be offered an exceptionally high salary, a job with accommodation, or a chance to travel abroad.

What to do it you receive an offer?

  • Ask an authority or a reliable person who you can trust for advice.
  • If a company operating in Finland offers you a job, see the website of the Business Information System (BIS) to check whether this company actually exists. On the website, you can also check if the company has been entered into the Employer Register. To check the company information, see  www.ytj.fi/en.
  • If a recruitment consultant or other private individual offers you a job, make sure that the salary and the working hours are in accordance with the law. The hourly pay must usually be at least 8 euros per hour. In Finland, the maximum working hours are 40 hours per week.
  • Nobody is allowed to ask you to work or to provide money or sex in exchange for a job, accommodation or transport.
  • If you are offered transport, write down the registration number of the vehicle. Give the registration number to a reliable person. Tell this person the address where you will be going and the name of the person you will be going with. Remember that the person who offers you transport is not allowed to take your phone, passport or wallet.
