Asylum seeker: If the Administrative Court has sent your application back for reprocessing, you will get a new estimate of how long it will take

Publication date 17.12.2020 9.08
Press release

We have given our clients new estimates of how long it will take to process their asylum applications that the Administrative Court has sent back. We process these applications in stages. Firstly, we make decisions on those applications that have been waiting for the longest time.

Check here for an estimate of how long it will take to process your application

If the Administrative Court has sent your application back for reprocessing in 2018–2020, you will receive a decision on your application as follows:

  • 2018: at the latest by the end of March 2021
  • 2019: at the latest by the end of June 2021
  • 2020: at the latest by end of September 2021

Why did I get a new estimate?

The number of employees at the Finnish Immigration Service was reduced in 2019. Because of the coronavirus epidemic, we also had to stop asylum interviews between 13 March and 7 April 2020. We regret that for these reasons, it will take us longer than what we told you earlier to make the decisions.

We understand that the decisions are very important for our clients’ lives. We are sorry about any trouble this delay may cause you. We have a strong commitment to making the decisions within the new time limits.
