Pekka Nuutinen has been appointed new Director of the Reception Unit at the Finnish Immigration Service. He was previously the Director of the Metsälä reception centre in Helsinki. Nuutinen has been on leave of absence from Metsälä since September 2015 when he was asked to join the Reception Unit of the Finnish Immigration Service to help solve the critical asylum seeker situation. Nuutinen has a Master’s degree in Political Sciences.

He has many years’ worth of experience of working in reception. He started working with reception matters already back in 1990, when a large number of asylum seekers arrived in Finland for the first time.

Nuutinen starts work on October 1, when Jorma Kuuluvainen retires.

In total, 21 candidates applied for the post.
