Publication date 13.6.2019 13.18
Press release

The newly published reports from the fact-finding mission to Russia concentrate on the situation in the North Caucasus and the course of the criminal procedure in Russia.

Researchers at the Country Information Service of the Finnish Immigration Service visited Moscow on a fact-finding mission in November–December 2018. In Moscow, the researchers interviewed non-governmental organisations, experts, researchers, international organisations and representatives of the authorities. The purpose of the fact-finding missions is to gather information about current themes as well as to strengthen the local contact and cooperation network available for the researchers.

The report on the North Caucasus focuses especially on the situation of persons who have engaged in illegal armed conflict and on the situation of women. The other report published today concentrates on the criminal procedure in Russia. In addition to this, the report goes through, for instance, the practices of granting citizenship and passports.

The reports have been published in Finnish on our website. The first publication in the series of reports from the fact-finding mission came out in April and discussed the circumstances of Jehovah’s witnesses in Russia.

The Country Information Service of the Finnish Immigration Service produces information in particular about the countries from which asylum seekers, quota refugees and other immigrants come to Finland. The researchers at the Country Information Service do not participate in the decision-making process regarding residence permits, or in the establishment of country guidelines.

The fact-finding mission to Russia was part of the FAKTA project, which has received EU funding from the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF).
