Publication date 30.7.2021 14.41
Press release

The appeal periods for asylum decisions are extended. A new law will take effect on 1 August 2021, under which

  • an appeal against the Finnish Immigration Service’s asylum decision must be submitted to the Administrative Court within 30 days from the date on which you received the decision.
  • the application for an appeal at the Supreme Administrative Court must be submitted within 30 days from the date on which you received the decision of the Administrative Court.

Previously, the appeal period to the Administrative Court was 21 days and to the Supreme Administrative Court 14 days. When the new law takes effect, the appeal periods to both administrative courts are extended.

Access to free legal counsel at your asylum interview will be made easier

Your legal counsel no longer needs to present pressing reasons for his or her presence in order to be paid.

Your legal counsel will continue to participate in the interview at his or her own discretion. If you want your legal counsel to participate in the interview, you must agree this with your counsel prior to the interview.
