Do you have a Brexit permit? This is what you should do if your Brexit residence permit card is about to expire

When you were granted a Brexit permit, you were issued with a Brexit residence permit card. The Brexit residence permit cards are valid for 5 years at a time, after which they must be renewed.

Apply for a new Brexit residence permit card or a permanent Brexit permit

If you have a right of permanent residence under the withdrawal agreement and your card is about to expire, apply for a new Brexit residence permit card.

• You have the right of permanent residence under the withdrawal agreement if your Brexit residence permit card contains the reference ‘P SEU-sopimuksen 50 artikla’ or ‘P artikel 50 i EU-fördraget’.

If you have a right of residence under the withdrawal agreement and your card is about to expire, apply for a permanent Brexit permit. You will receive a new card when you are granted the right of permanent residence.

• You have a right of residence under the withdrawal agreement if your Brexit residence permit card contains the reference ‘SEU-sopimuksen 50 artikla’ or ‘P artikel 50 i EU-fördraget.

Apply for a new Brexit residence permit card or a permanent Brexit permit in the Enter Finland online service

You should apply for a new residence permit card or permit no earlier than 3 months before your current residence permit card expires. 

• If you already have a permanent Brexit permit and you are applying for a new residence permit card, fill in the Brexit residence permit card application in Enter Finland on the page Renewal of card. 
• If you are applying for a permanent Brexit permit, fill in the application in Enter Finland on the page A right of residence or a right of permanent residence under the Withdrawal Agreement. Select on the form that you are applying for a permanent Brexit permit.

Background information on Brexit

The United Kingdom withdrew from the European Union in January 2020. All British citizens living in Finland have had to apply for a Brexit permit from the Finnish Immigration Service by 30 September 2021.
